Events and Races - September 2002

09/01/02 - Wilder Ranch Trail Work
Have you helped yet? Me neither...Im starting to feel guilty. Im going to be in Bromont, so will someone please go in my place?

09/01/02 - China Peak Classic
A mountain bike race at Sierra Summit Ski Resort.

09/01/02 - University Road Race
The Cal Cup really gets groovin with this race which goes up and back down, up and back down, up and back down, up and back down the UCSC campus. Ouch.

09/02/02 - Giro di San Francisco
Nevermind that the streets used in this crit are in shitty condition. These are the streets of San Francisco, and you are racing near Battery Park with the Bay Bridge in the background. A Cal Cup and Senior District Crit Championship race.

09/06-08/02 - Downieville Classic
The Downieville Classic is the undisputed king of mountain bike racing in California. Long, nasty, exposed fireroad climb to the top of the Sierras and the most incredible 17 miles of twisting downhill to the finish. This is how mountain bike racing was meant to be. Go and savor it. Wylder will be holding a Demo Days event there as well.

09/07-08/02 - Northstar at Tahoe
Race #6 in the CA State MTB Series. Who was the bastard that scheduled this the same weekend as Downieville?

09/08/02 - Elite Cyclocross Clinic
The legendary Clark Natwick is putting on this clinic for elite riders. Why would Elite riders need a clinic? I dunno, but this one's a bargain. Maybe I can sneak in.

09/14/02 - Worlds Toughest Century
The promoter of this event said that we had the coolest web site of any cycling club out there. So the least we can do is hype their event for them. I must say, the 140-mile course does look pretty tough, and Auburn is beautiful country.

09/14/02 - San Rafael Cycling Classic
Part of the lucrative Pro Cycling Tour. With the SF Grand Prix the following day, expect the big guns to be out. Races only for Pros and Master 1/2/3.

09/15/02 - San Francisco Grand Prix
Even if there were other events happening on this day, I wouldnt list them on this calendar. If you are a cycling fan, there is no place else you should be on the 15th but Fillmore Hill. If you were there last year, and you saw Hincapie launch the winning attack, you
know what I mean. Get there early, this aint no ordinary Nor Cal bike race. Look for Wylder and their Demo Days Event at the site too.

09/21-22/02 - Humboldt Hoedown
Swimmin holes, keg tapping, huffy tossing, singlespeeding, barbecuing, Mud Puddle Bluegrass&wheee doggie, where do I sign up?

09/21-22/02 - Big Sur Ride
Big Sur is so beautiful, its almost overwhelming, This ride features
vineyardy Carmel Valley, scenic Big Sur, the rugged Ventana Wilderness. What more could you want? Dinner and wine at Talbotts Vineyards? Okay, you get that too!

09/21-22/02 - Tahoe Hopper MTB Festival
What is up with all these fun events on the same weekend? What's a girl to do? This event has all the fun happening at Squaw Valley.
Eenie-meenie-miney-mo...

09/21/02 - NCNCA Masters Districts Championships Criterium
Initially there were 6 age categories for the men and 1 for the women at this crit championship race. Someone must have noticed the inequity, because now there are 3 more age groups for women. Let's go out and race as a way of saying "Thanks!"

09/22/02 - Wine Country Classic Criterium
If you're already in town for the district crit, why not stay one more ay and do this race too?

09/28/02 - Mt Tam Hill Climb
A hillclimb. yay

09/28/02 - Sacramento Cyclocross Clinic
First of two clinics held prior to the Sacarmento Cyclocross series, and I bet this one isn't limited to hoity toity riders.

09/29/02 - Presidio Classic Criterium
I think this is a first annual event...how can they call if classic? Anyhoo, if it's on the gorgeous surroundings of the Presidio, this might be a cool deal. Memories of 99 Cross Nationals anyone?

09/29/02 - Trail Work at Nisene Marks
Planned work is for Vienna Woods trail, part of the small network of the only legal singletrack in Nisene. Maybe if we do good work here, theyll open up more of the park to us? Maybe?

09/29/02 - Sacramento Cyclocross Clinic
Granite Beach, Sacramento Dirk Manley, Body Concepts, [email protected], (w) 916-939-6800. I have no further info on this, but if someone goes, can you ask Dirk if that is his real name or just his porn name?
